Spreading
Artist Statement – Spreading
Spreading is a series of paintings that reflects on time, the body, and states of persistence.
In this body of work, long hair is not treated as a personal feature, nor does it refer to gender or beauty. Instead, it functions as a growing structure—resembling plants, mycelium, and time itself. The hair extends into space and surrounding structures, forming a mode of existence that unfolds slowly yet resists interruption.
Spreading does not signify expansion or conquest. It does not aim toward an outcome, nor does it form an event. Rather, it continues at a speed that is not permitted. In a world increasingly governed by acceleration and efficiency, spreading operates as a quiet and sustained presence.
Time in these works is neither narrated nor dramatized. It does not occur; it continues. The body becomes a carrier of time, and painting records this non-event form of duration.
